CenturyTel Bargaining Report #13

March 11, 2008

Contract negotiations reconvened this morning as the parties gathered to exchange and respond to counter proposals.  Discussion and questions on these and other proposals still unresolved followed.

The parties recessed to review and consider positions and counter proposals and returned to the table late this afternoon for another session of discussions until recessing for the day.

Your Union Bargaining Committee reports that some progress was made on proposals on differentials and Article 30 - Board and Lodging.  There are, however, still many unresolved issues such as Wages, Pensions, VEBA, Job Titles, Job Vacancy, Contracting, etc.  The Committee will continue working tonight in preparation for tomorrow morning’s session.

Your Union Committee also reports that a tremendous show of support was delivered by approximately 45 members who came to the complex to practice picketing this afternoon.  The message of the picketers was, “Tick-Tock Don’t Wait Till The Midnight Hour!”  The Committee stepped outside to address the practice picketers and were presented with picket signs to wear into the evening session with the Company.  The Committee is overwhelmed by the support and comments from the participants.

As we enter the final hours leading to the expiration of the contract, Several Locals have reported that picket assignments have been distributed.  If this process has not been completed in your Local, members should contact your Steward and/or Local offices.
