Helena Labs Bargaining Report #1

The Joint Committees began bargaining yesterday morning at Local 6139 with brief opening statements from each party.  The Union presented a package of fourteen proposals based on the surveys and bargaining demands of the members.  The proposals included a significant wage increase, improvements in benefits, and an alternative lower cost healthcare plan in addition to the existing plan.  The parties recessed for lunch and reconvened in the afternoon with a presentation of items from the Company and counter offers on 3 items presented by the Union.  There are a number of mutual concerns that the joint committees are exploring.  The Union has requested information regarding attendance in order to fully understand a Company proposal regarding changes to Leaves of Absence.
Your CWA Bargaining Committee appreciates the overwhelming support over the past month and the strong show of support on Day 1 from everyone wearing black and the sun visor signs in the parking lot.  Pictures will be posted soon.   We are committed to obtaining a fair and just contract!
